Gate Safety

Gate Safety

At Surrey Wrought Iron, we recognise that safety is of utmost importance. We prioritize the safety of our clients and adhere to the essential Health and Safety regulations set by the Machinery Directive. We pride ourselves on staying up to date with essential safety training and Surrey Wrought Iron is a CAME Safe approved installer of automated gates.

There are several significant areas to be aware of when installing automated gates which can determine an install as being compliant or non- compliant. Should a hazard exist, extra safety equipment will be requried to protect the hazard depending on how they have been installed.

Due to some very unfortunate events in the UK in the past, which resulted in fatal injuries, automated gates became subject to health and safety law.

As installers, we are bound by the current Health and Safety legislation and have a legal duty and moral responsibility to ensure the gates we work on and install, are safe for our clients, their visitors and ourselves.

By law all gates must conform to the Machine directive 2006/42/EC.

The Owner/Managing Agent is required under the above law to service their gate annually to ensure health and safety requirements are being met. Our obligations as an Installer/Maintainer plus the obligations of property managers and owners are given in the HSE.

If your gates do not meet current health and safety standards, there are many safety solutions available, such as safety ribs. We will be able to advise what safety equipment is required to bring your gates safety up to date with current legislations once we have visited and carried out our technical site survey.

Mandatory requirements can be found here

Surrey Wrought Iron offer a certificate of conformity and would highly recommend that this document is available and provided by any company you instruct to carry out the works.

All our new installations adhere to current HSE regulations and carry the CE mark.
